After reading Demon Ex Machina in 2009 and not seeing any future books on the horizon, I had resigned myself to the fact that this much-loved author was done and there would be no more Kate Conner and the curious town of San Diablo. Much to my delight, Julie Kenner has moved into the world of self-publishing, and with this short story offering and a new book to be published later this year, Kate and her daughter Allie have a new life so to speak.This teaser falls somewhere between books four and five and has teenage Allie is trying to flex her wings a bit. Quickly realizing that just because her mother is a Demon hunter and she has been practicing her self-defense arts, does not mean that she is able to take on a sneaky devil and protect both herself and her friends.
I love this series, just picture Buffy the Vampire Slayer all grown up with a teenage daughter and a young son who is trying to keep the evil world at bay and having dinner on the table at six. With shock and humor, Kate and her curious band of hunters keep their small town safe no matter what comes crawling out of the panty during a cocktail party.

I miss Kate and her demon hunting ways. So this was a great little tease before the next book (which has been a very long time coming) I like seeing Allie come into her own as a demon hunter and her finding out that what her mom does isn't easy. She got a good taste of what it's like to have to fight a demon and now maybe she'll listen to her mother more.
I am a sucker for the funny supernatural type stories and Julie Kenner is a master. Her character Kate Connor is a typical suburbanite, chauffeuring the kids, trying t organize dinner for everyone and hunting demons for the Vatican in her spare time, aided by her best friend, teenage daughter and assorted others. So what could possibly go wrong?
Compilation of some of her other longer stories, but with a few new twists. Nice interlude.
This was a cute little insight into the world of Kate, demon hunting mom. Allie, her teenaged daughter, wants to be a demon hunter so bad, but is impatient about having to wait until she is ready. A bad night at a party, and a run in with a demon she isn't ready to handle, puts Allie in her mom's shoes. I like this series, and will definitely read more.
Julie Kenners Demon hunting soccer mom series is one of the best and most relatable urban fantasy series ever written. Any Mom can relate to being frazzled with our own kids, husbands and lives and then having "extras" piled on our shoulders. Its like Buffy grew up, had kids and tried to walk away but gets sucked back into her old job. We all can relate to the need to find balance, take time for ourselves and the need to fix the world around us
Loved this short story. A soccer mom that hunts demons. This short story was mostly about her 14 year old daughter going on a date and ending getting into trouble of the demon variety. We see the relationship mother and daughter have, I liked that. The daughter is in training and ends up helping her mom with the demon. The story was funny in some parts. Authors writing style is really good and the story keeps your attention the whole time.
This chapter, it's too short to be called a short story. It is focused on Kate's daughter. As with all of this series, its a fun, quick read. It's like an out-take that she wrote for one of the books, but it didn't fit with the overall flow, so she took it out and gave it to us readers as a mini standalone. It fits into the story line either after the 2nd or 3rd book. You won't miss anything important from the overall plot of this series it you decide skip it, but it is an enjoyable addition. I enjoyed reading it and was glad I ignored the fact that it so short.
