From M. Scott Burgess comes a new episodic book-series that reimagines and redefines the zombie apocalypse genre.
In the near future, the world has died. With no warning, all technology and communication have inexplicably shut down and zombies have begun to rise. They feed on the living, pulling more to their ranks as they spread at an impossible rate.
But hope survives, as a small band of survivors work together to escape from Southern California in hopes of finding sanctuary from this zombie-infested world. Their goal is to find some remnants of civilization but the farther they venture, the more they become aware that the world as they know it has been forever lost.
What they don’t realize is that there are things hiding in the shadows, things that are far worse than zombies.
A Man in the Darkness is the 3rd episode in the series. It follows the story of Elias Cowell and the other survivors in Costco as they work together to try and survive a siege of the undead. Little do they suspect that a greater evil lurks in the darkness, plotting and scheming to butcher them all. (32,191 words)
The Plague A Man in the Darkness Episode 3 eBook M Scott Burgess
Each episode (chapter) of "The Plague" keeps getting better. The editing seems to be better, although still not perfect, and the storyline is cohesive. The characters are well developed. I feel like I would know them on the (zombie strewn) street.
Chapter 3 tells more about Elias, security cop, and Quake, who decided to stay behind at Costco when his friends headed for the water, boats and Dean's girlfriend. There are nasty, rotten cops, an intelligent monster at Lowes and hovering around the outside of Costco, and unrest in the produce aisle.
I am looking forward to reading The Plague: Empire of the Dead (Episode 4).

The Plague A Man in the Darkness Episode 3 eBook M Scott Burgess Reviews
I had to get off this particular train ride. I was enjoying the story line but the stories dropped out too piecemeal for me. By the "end" of this book I didn't even know or care who was in the truck anymore. I hope the author continues with the series and i will just wait for the final "Omnibus" collection to enjoy.
What an awsome series. So easy to read. Gripping from start to finish. Leaves you wanting more. If you like Zombies you'll LOVE this....
I'm really enjoying this series. I found it after the first 2 books were out, so I read both right away. When I found out book 3 was out, I reread the first 2, just to keep the "flow" going.
NOW I have to WAIT for book 4 (
I just know that Chavez is going to get what he deserves (I HOPE he does anyway)
I think each book is too short, of course. But Scott leaves each "episode" in a perfect place. If they were longer, it might be even more time between releases.
I just hope we don't have to wait to long!
Keep up the great work...
This book series sends shivers down your spine! Well written, fast moving and gripping! A good writer who knows how to get your attention and keep it, with good characters. What more can I say.
this is a real great read but where is book 6, it stops at a point where whats next. I read all five books and look forward to book 6 if it ever turns up, where is the author
I am loving this series! The characters are gaining depth and the story flows nicely. Though full of twists, it doesn't feel contrived.
Speaking of twists, this is the best episode yet! Can't wait until next month's!
I was hoping this would include parts left off from the last book besides the costco group. I did enjoy reading how they all came to the costco during the crisis and the interesting things they did to get to home depot. I would have liked more info on the freaky zombie smoker guy. I would have liked to see chavez getting his but kicked. I'm still wondering if the guy in the last book found his gf. Really short book like the others. Elias should have been in charge since the beginning since it's his store. I was wondering why they didnt use more stuff in the costco to use against the zombies outside.
